The Journey....
Founder Kate Boyd talks about why she birthed Blyss in an already flooded, environmentally unfriendly industry.
Kate is a mother, established designer of over 20 years, storyteller and keen yogi. For quite some time she'd been searching for a deeper meaning within the fashion world. Something that made it all feel somewhat aligned with her own beliefs.
During preparations for her son’s arrival Kate undertook a birth trauma course in which shamanic journeying and art therapy were used as healing tools to overcome trapped trauma stored in the body. The main focus being: to get out of the mind and into the heart center.
For the art therapy component Kate chose to explore the therapeutic qualities of colour & Shibori tie dye. “The art of Shibori is a philosophy that embraces the beauty of imperfection and the harmony between nature and human touch. This sentiment really echoed for me and I found the colours & tie-dye creations enhancing my mood; in a therapeutic sense."
Kate felt transformed by the time she finished the course. “Through meditational practices; breath work and nervous system regulation I went on to experience a strong feeling of love and surrender to the uncontrolled variables that is life. And I had my dream birth!"
She figured, if these practices could touch her the way they did, imagine what they could do for others.
Travelling to Indonesia with her son soon after birth, Kate birthed the brand, deciding to only produce garments with deeper meaning. To design with her hands and to work with artisanal manufacturers that create with intention and respect. So, she began her journey making certified organic pieces and hand-knitted garments. Hand-dyeing with the power of plants; and a promise to herself and our mother earth.

Through technological advancement people have lost touch with the innate source. Blyss is saying no to man-made endocrine disrupting, environmentally polluting chemicals that are widely used and unregulated in the fashion world. Blyss urges us to slow down and make thoughtful, conscious decisions that will in turn help shape a better world for us and the future generations.
